10 Horror Movies To Watch When You’re Stoned

It’s Halloween season, so you’re probably curious: What are the best horror movies to watch when you’re stoned? Lucky for all of you, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best horror flicks to turn on when you and your buds have smoked some bud.

10. Hansel & Gretel Get Baked (2013)

Okay, so this one is technically a comedy-horror, but we figured we would ease you into this spooktacular list. Hansel & Gretel Get Baked is essentially a retelling of the classic fairy. Only instead of luring children into her house with candy, the witch in this film uses a special weed strain of her own design. If nothing else, this film has a moral we can all take to heart: only trust dealers with reliable references.

9. Southbound (2015)

If you have a limited attention span when you’re high, check out the 2015 film Southbound. This anthology-style horror movie is chock-full of twists and turns that will hold your focus while simultaneously giving you the creeps. If you like V/H/S, you’ll probably like this, too.

8. Deathgasm (2015)

Another horror-comedy, Deathgasm is, hands-down, one of the best things to come out of New Zealand. In the film, teenage wannabe metal stars accidentally summon a demonic force. It takes over their small, conservative town with gory and hilarious results. Deathgasm is one of the best horror movies to watch when you’re stoned, but we’ll be honest. If you’re not watching Deathgasm when you’re blazed, you might as well not watch it at all.

7. Bloodsucking Bastards (2015)

If you’re a fan of office comedies and vampire movies, this movie is perfect for you. Bloodsucking Bastards tells the tale of a company that moves over to the dark side. As in, the employees become vampires. It’s gory, droll and totally satisfying.

6. I Am A Ghost (2012)

This ain’t your average haunted house story. I Am A Ghost uses an atmospheric, minimalist approach to tell the story of a ghost who must come to terms with her own death… and her cause of death. It’s eery throughout and will keep you on the edge of your seat.

5. It Follows (2014)

You know how weed is an aphrodisiac? Well, this movie will give you pause on that front. It Follows is the carefully crafted STD-themed horror film you didn’t know you needed. This movie offers everything: psychological terror, incredible cinematography and amazing performances by the actors.

4. Hush (2016)

Do you get paranoid when you smoke weed? If so, check out Hush. Your classic home invasion slasher, but with a twist: the protagonist is deaf and mute. Not only does it subvert the Scream Queen trope, it adds a layer of suspense that will have you constantly checking the locks on your windows and doors.

3. The Shining (1980)

Love it or hate it, Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining is, hands down, one of the best horror movies to watch when you’re stoned. Forget the fact that Kubrick all but butchered the characterization of Wendy Torrance. Focus on the cinematography. When you’re high, the terrifying visuals of this film will worm their way into your brain and stay with you. Forever. And ever. And ever.

2. Halloween (1978)

We obviously had to include this classic! Halloween tells the story of the escaped lunatic Michael Myers. He slashes and stabs the inhabitants of his hometown and stalks a 20-year-old Jamie Lee Curtis, who is desperately trying to keep herself and the kids she’s babysitting alive.

1. Suspiria (1977)

Okay. If you haven’t ever watched Suspiria, you need to drop whatever you’re doing, spark up a joint and find it online. This film isn’t just one of the best horror movies to watch when you’re stoned. It’s one of the best horror movies period. Dario Argento’s twisted tale of a ballet boarding school is deranged and visually stunning, especially when you’re baked. Do yourself a favor and watch Suspiria.
